BCIU Learning Academy

The BCIU Learning Academy at Lower Heidelberg serves elementary students who need additional support in the areas of social / emotional development.

The BCIU Learning Academy at Alsace serves students in middle school or high school who meet the criteria set forth by Pennsylvania Department of Education AEDY (Alternative Education for Delinquent Youth) guidelines and / or need additional support in the areas of social / emotional development.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

The BCIU Learning Academy provides an appropriate public education for students who have had difficulty participating in traditional school environments. The ultimate goal of the program is to prepare students for a successful return to their home school district or for the completion of their
formal secondary education.

BCIU program administrators collaborate closely with schools, families, and community agencies to best meet the needs of targeted student populations. Data-driven instruction by highly qualified professional educators helps students improve academic skills in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. A positive, safe learning environment enables students to develop social skills and self-esteem.

In addition, for secondary students, the program addresses truancy issues and serves as a transition from placements outside of students’ home school districts.
