HUMAN RESOURCES
Professional Development & Consultation
In addition to providing the intermediate unit’s almost 1,200 full-time, part-time, and substitute personnel with a variety of services pertinent to their employment, the BCIU’s Department of Human Resources also has an external focus.
Human Resources staff coordinate a monthly meeting of Berks County school officials with human resources responsibilities. As part of this endeavor, they forward information of interest to these individuals as well as coordinate “requests for information” to be shared with the entire group.
FBI Fingerprinting Site
The BCIU, through the Human Resources Department, serves as a fingerprinting site for FBI clearances required by the Pennsylvania departments of Education and Public Welfare, as well as the banking industry. While walk-ins are accepted, the HR Department, in cooperation with members of the BCIU's Information Technology Department, developed a scheduling system whereby individuals who need their fingerprints taken can make an appointment.

Guest Teacher Program
A major endeavor intended to assist Berks County school districts is the coordination of the Guest Teacher Program. This program, which has been in place since the 1998-99 fiscal year, recruits, trains, and recertifies individuals possessing a bachelor’s degree twice a year to serve as per-diem substitutes in Berks County school districts. Currently, there are approximately 745 active participants serving the BCIU and Berks County school districts as “Guest Teachers.”
